Positive Behavior Support

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Build Relationships!

Positive Behavior Support is a program implemented in Tustin Unified to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. It is a school-wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning. Red Hill Elementary is proud to be a part of this exciting initiative.

As part of the PBS program, Red Hill has established three clear rules for the behavior we expect in all areas of our school:

"Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Build Relationships"

We explicitly teach these expectations to students and reward them frequently with positive notes ("Caught-in-the-Act" cards) and prizes (Extra Recess or an invitation to "purchase" incentive items at our Student Store) for their great behavior. The expectations for all student behavior is made clear throughout our building and playground areas, lunch tables, library, computer lab and classrooms. Parents can ask their students "What are the rules in your school?" "How do you follow the rules?" "What happens when a teacher sees you following the rules?"

Our school rules specifically address bullying behaviors, provide for a safer environment and give more time for instruction. We apply consistent consequences and positive reinforcement for all students. By detailing every expected behavior and teaching to students in a positive way, we provide a common language for everyone at school, including students, teachers, paraeducators and staff.

We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we build a school community where all students have an environment where they can succeed and grow.

The Positive Behavior teacher committee has developed a matrix outlining clear and specific behavior expectations. This Positive Behavior System Poster is available in all classrooms, buildings and common areas.
